Can I use a softbox for filming?
Absolutely. Recently, we've been seeing an increasing overlap between applications reserved for photography and the world of film. The SOFTBOX OCTA 60cm light fixture provides an excellent alternative to budget panel lamp versions (known as kinoflo). This solution is significantly more cost-effective while still achieving the same results.
What sets octagonal softboxes apart from rectangular ones?
The most noticeable difference is in the shape of reflections on reflective surfaces. This is particularly evident in portrait and fashion photography, where the octagonal shape resembling a circle mimics solar reflections. Octagonal softboxes also feature better light distribution (especially when lighting from the front).
What should I keep in mind?
- Softboxes work best at short distances. Position them as close to the subjects or objects being lit, right on the edge of the frame.
- The larger the softbox diameter, the softer the tonal transition between light and shadow.
- If you need to shine from a long distance, remove the diffusive fabric. This will give you even more light.

CineGEN® — studio equipment designed by practitioners
CineGEN® is a Polish studio equipment brand we created in 2011 in Janki near Warsaw. We don't have 35 years of tradition or offices on two continents — what we do have is around 40,000 orders with CineGEN® products fulfilled every year and 15 years of working with light, which taught us what actually works in a studio.
The brand was born for a simple reason: selling other people's equipment, we too often had to explain flaws we had no control over. We preferred taking responsibility to making excuses — so we started building our own.
How we work
Specifications and part of the designs are created in Poland; manufacturing takes place in China, under our supervision. We say this openly, because that's how studio equipment is made all over the world today. The difference lies in who sets the requirements and who answers for the result: every batch arrives at our warehouse in Janki, where we inspect it, and before a product enters our catalogue, we work with it ourselves — on packshots, portraits and video shoots.
Our product descriptions state real parameters and real limitations. A 200 PLN lamp won't replace a 2,000 PLN kit — and we won't pretend otherwise.
What you'll find under the CineGEN® brand
Continuous lighting (FlatLight™, Lumifi™, ReLed™, Ensö™ panels with CRI >95), Ignitix™ photographic bulbs, softboxes and light modifiers, lighting, photo and video stands and tripods (including the Jupiter™ series), and home studio kits.
What we stand behind
