Home Photo Studio

GreenScreen is one of the most commonly used video FX (special effects) techniques today. A bit of practice and creativity will allow you to transform a modest room into a fully professional television studio at the highest level, which will amaze viewers.

CineGEN®, known for producing accessories for film and photography, has addressed the needs of the semi-professional market and prepared a set of accessories called Home&Office PhotoStudio (Home Photo Studio). This lightweight and easy-to-use kit is based on the most essential and popular accessories, fulfilling two requirements:

  • The components of the kit are as small as possible so that the complete set can be assembled in a small room.
  • The entire kit enables you to take high-quality photos and videos.

The green background on the kit for hanging allows you to separate the model (object) from the unflattering appearance of the room, while the set of lamps ensures proper exposure (illumination). The tone of green has been chosen to match lighting sources with a color temperature of 5500K and facilitates color selection during processing.

  • Background hanging kit - two stands along with a crossbar create the simplest independent frame, allowing you to hang backgrounds.
  • Green polypopylene background - neutral, enabling maximum focus on the model (object) as well as facilitating keying.
  • Lighting - complete, ready-to-work lamps that will provide informative or artistic lighting depending on your needs.

One kit - many possibilities

  • Semi-professional, low-cost photo and video studio for self-assembly.
  • Enables you to achieve high-quality photos and video recordings.

Why green color?

Blue box (also known as bluescreen, GreenScreen, chroma key) is an image processing technique that involves replacing the background of a relatively uniform color (originally blue, hence the name) with any other image. It's widely used in television (most commonly during weather forecasts and news programs) and film (to place actors in computer-generated environments). The background color is usually blue or green because these colors are considered least similar to skin tone and appear rarely in costumes and props.

In digital video recordings, color is represented by three numbers indicating the brightness of the color components (RGB). The blue box effect is achieved through a simple comparison of the values of these numbers at different points in the recording with the background color. If the colors match (exactly or within a certain range), then that point in the recording is replaced by an alternative background.

A person participating in a blue box recording should not wear clothing in a similar color to the background, as it will be replaced by an alternative image. They also shouldn't hold objects of this color. This can be used to create the effect of an invisible character wearing an invisibility cap, for example.

In some Polish television channels (e.g., TVP, TVN Meteo Active), blue box is used to present weather forecasts. Public television in 1990-1992 used blue box in "Wiadomości" to generate a uniform blue background and display animations next to the presenter. From 1997 to 2002, it was also used in this program to generate a newsroom image behind the presenter's back. Source: Wikipedia.

Color keying on green background

DELUXStudio

The DELUXStudio kit has been prepared for users based on semi-professional, home studio requirements.

It contains the most important elements that allow you to build a photographic studio in your home - a background hanging kit, basic background, and lighting. The green background meets color keying criteria and enables digital "replacement" with any other background. The lighting power allows for photography ranging from close-ups (portrait, detail) to wide shots (bust, full figure). In the case of non-living nature, the frame is limited only by the width of the background. The kit can also be used for filming (live, stream, remote learning).

The home photo studio kit with a green background enables you to take the following types of shots:

  • Portrait (for documents, makeup, artistic portrait)
  • Product photography (catalogs, websites, online stores, sales platforms)
  • Stock photos - for sale in photographic services.
  • Virtual newsroom - recording shots on a computer-generated background.

Background Hanging Kit

The background hanging kit is a simple setup of two CGLS-816B studio stands and a crossbar between them, creating a two-section frame. The kit allows you to hang popular photographic backgrounds up to 165 cm wide. The kit's load capacity (5 kg) allows for mounting cardboard, vinyl, or fabric backgrounds without restrictions. The height of the background suspension ranges from 83 cm to 205 cm. The bar is attached to the stands using butterfly screws, which prevents the bar from lifting when raising the background upwards. Unrolling the background from the roll is blocked by inserting two grips (frogs) included in the kit.

Technical specifications

  • Weight : 3 kg
  • Maximum width: 170 cm
  • Maximum height: 205 cm
  • Bar: Two-sectional
  • Material : Steel/aluminum

GreenScreen - Green Background

The width and length of the fabric on the roll are sufficient to create a continuous background without folds (cyclorama) for photographing a silhouette. The cardboard roll protects against creases during transport or storage. Potential creases can be easily removed by steaming or wetting the background. The perforated texture of the background minimizes reflections from strong light sources. The cardboard roll, on which the background is wound, serves as a base for easy storage and transportation of the background, allowing it to be hung on a studio bar or with T-type hangers. We strongly recommend purchasing the background suspension kit simultaneously, as it significantly improves the quality of work in the studio and the level of achieved effects.

Creative use of the background requires the photographer or camera operator to plan the frame and the desired final effect after applying keying. Of course, a computer with appropriate software will be necessary for this. The good news is that there are free versions of software available on the market that enable image keying in both photography and film. For those starting work with green background as greenscreen, we highly recommend materials published on YouTube.

Note regarding fabric texture - people who encounter photographic polypopylene backgrounds for the first time may be concerned that the background's texture will be visible in photos. In real-life conditions, the object remains about 50 cm away from the background, which, together with shallow depth of field, causes the background texture to blur.

Lighting Kit

The lighting used in this model is the most popular continuous light source today - a pair of four-bulb lamps with softbox fixtures on lighting stands. The total lighting power allows you to work with models within the frame defined by the background. In a symmetrical lamp setup relative to the lens axis, the lamps mutually compensate for shadows, resulting in very soft light distribution and eliminating potential reflections.

The light source is eight strong photographic fluorescent tubes with a standard color temperature of 5500K placed in two four-bulb fixtures. Each lamp has the option to turn off a pair of bulbs, allowing for rough adjustment of lighting power on set. The position of softboxes can be adjusted (height, tilt, rotation)

The lamps are powerful enough to light up standing figures and perform excellently in portrait photography.

  • Power : mains 230V / 50Hz
  • Light points: 8 pcs / 85W / 400W
  • Idle power: 680 W (8x 85W)
  • Luminous power: 3200 W

CineGEN® — studio equipment designed by practitioners

CineGEN® is a Polish studio equipment brand we created in 2011 in Janki near Warsaw. We don't have 35 years of tradition or offices on two continents — what we do have is around 40,000 orders with CineGEN® products fulfilled every year and 15 years of working with light, which taught us what actually works in a studio.

The brand was born for a simple reason: selling other people's equipment, we too often had to explain flaws we had no control over. We preferred taking responsibility to making excuses — so we started building our own.

How we work

Specifications and part of the designs are created in Poland; manufacturing takes place in China, under our supervision. We say this openly, because that's how studio equipment is made all over the world today. The difference lies in who sets the requirements and who answers for the result: every batch arrives at our warehouse in Janki, where we inspect it, and before a product enters our catalogue, we work with it ourselves — on packshots, portraits and video shoots.

Our product descriptions state real parameters and real limitations. A 200 PLN lamp won't replace a 2,000 PLN kit — and we won't pretend otherwise.

What you'll find under the CineGEN® brand

Continuous lighting (FlatLight™, Lumifi™, ReLed™, Ensö™ panels with CRI >95), Ignitix™ photographic bulbs, softboxes and light modifiers, lighting, photo and video stands and tripods (including the Jupiter™ series), and home studio kits.

What we stand behind

CineGEN® is a trademark protected at the Patent Office of the Republic of Poland (application Z.574925, rights held by Digishots Sp. z o.o.).
Warranty service and spare parts are handled at our facility in Janki — no shipping your gear "back to the manufacturer".
You can see the equipment in person at our location in Janki (ul. Poniatowskiego 17), and you'll find tests and tutorials on the digishots.pl blog and the CineGEN YouTube channel.

CineGEN® is a proprietary brand of Digishots Sp. z o.o., ul. Poniatowskiego 17, 05-090 Janki, Poland, KRS 0001135340.
